I think you'll find that the majority of small shop owners and landlords would disagree with you.Obviously Tesco's Morrisons etc can afford to compete with each other for the cheapest prices. That's fair enough they're(as are Wetherspoons)big enough that if another place is cheaper than them they're still not going to go out of business. The same could not be said of the local pubs in Abertillery, many of whom I suspect are just about hanging on if you allow Wetherspoons to take away any of their trade(I think it would be a large amount)how long would they last then. The price of the beer reflects the running cost of the pub, against reducing profits, they have to survive afterall. In a way it's the same as petrol the bigger the company selling it the cheaper they can charge.Wetherspoons buy beer that is almost out of date and buy in bulk, there is no way a local pub can compete with that,so quite where you get introducing competition from is beyond me.If BGBC were prepared to invest the same amount of time and effort into Abertillery as they do in Ebbw Vale then the story would probably be different,I for one would rather all the local pubs open competing against each other,if Wetherspoons arrives I fear that won't be the case.
