Hi Margaret,
My brother Alan and I were born in Park Place and I can remember Mr Sheen very well when I was little from about 4 yrs to about 10 yrs we used to play around his place of work as that was our 'adventure ground' we always called it 'the blacksmiths' and was at the back of our house. We used to go and chat with him and watch as he would make the fire bright by squeezing the bellows. He was so kind and always gave us one of his sandwiches and a drink of pop from his bottle. My brother may remember more about him than I can as he is seven years older than me. I can remember my mother and father telling us he was from Newport, he was a very slight man and always wore a flat cap, we used to love to go into to talk to him and sit down to watch him work, but can't remember any more than that I'm afraid. We always kept a horse-shoe on our back gate he gave us. We had it for years but it's gone now, funny I just remembered that.
Kath
