>What is this man's history with NBC Daytime? Could his >support be one of the main reasons that NBC kept the solid >lineup of Days/AW/SB in the 1980's? Was he in charge at >the time of the launch for Generations and the >cancellation of Search for Tomorrow?

Brian Frons was VP Daytime Programming for NBC when SB premiered in 1984. I didn't follow the backstage happenings back then, so I don't know if he was there
when GEN launched. I think he was still there when SFT was
canceled. I've heard GENERATIONS was launched due to office romance than from any other factor! (And no Frons isn't involved, others who shall remain nameless)

>And when did he stop working at NBC? It was my assumption >that Susan Lee was responsible for the cancellation of >Santa Barbara.

Frons was long gone when NBC canceled SB! As much as a hack Susan Lee was, she didn't cancel SB, her boss, the
evil John Rohbeck! The true anti-christ of soaps canceled
Santa Barbara! Rohbeck was some hack NBC promoted to
take over Daytime, he hated soaps, if he had his way the entire NBC soap line-up would have been canceled in 1992!
Lucky for DAYS and AW, the senior level NBC execs told him
NO! Thankfully they really tied his hands after the SB cancelation, until they took away Daytime from him, and gave it to Don Ohlmeyer, another clueless airhead who thought soaps were just about sex and youth, resulting in SUBE! I don't blame Ohlmeyer, after all what can you expect from the guy who came from the NBC Sports division to know about soaps? It was hack Susan Lee who caused all the trouble! Ohlmeyer probably relied on her too much, little did he know, she was a hack!

>What if this man is *The One* to pull ABC out of the >gutter?

He would be the perfect choice! Since he's been out
of the soap loop for years, he would an outsider with
complete insider experience taking over! Someone who
can make objective decisions, for example if Felicia Behr
took over, she would likely not change anything she
has done, but if an outsider came in, he or she would
have no attachment to anything and change a lot!
