I think it's definitely a great concept. I have the feeling that people are more willing to commit to something shirt term than a brand new soap. It's definitely a big reason why I watched Spyder Games. But who's to say that one of these telenovela's wouldn't also function as a pilot and end up getting a commitment as a regular soap if it werepwildly popular.

Your reasoning makes very good sense to me. ABC wouldn't have a lot to lose in the effort. I somewhat think that NBC should take your advice since they are a relative failure in the daytime arena compared to the other two. (Did anyone else notice during the Olympics how they patted themselves on the back for being number 1 in primetime, news, morning news and late night....hmmmm daytime hasn't come close in years and years!) My problem with NBC using your idea is that they would absolutely find a way to screw it up.

You also hit on an idea that I had for an Edge of Night type show that would keep a continuing cast of cops and lawyers (kind of like Law & Order). Each cycle would feature a mystery/crime sort of thing and follow the investigation and prosecution of the case. I'd also throw in a small amount of the continuing cast's personal lives. The mysteries would run for a month or two. I can see NBC's take on it now.... Law & Order: Daytime
