I've got an excellent idea (probably pitched already by someone else though. LOL)for ABC and how they can fill their half-hour....

ABC "thinks" the 13 week book format is a winner with Port Charles. So, why not expand on that format a bit. I would cancel Port Charles and allow different production companies(if they were interested: Stephen J. Cannell, Dreamworks) and different head-writers(Claire Labine, Christian McLaughlin) to create new 13 week half-hour miniseries.

This could be a plus in several ways:

1) Production Companies who pitch their ideas for NEW shows get more ad money from interested companies who want their products promoted on the show.

2) They can attract teen viewers every summer with a "teen soap" over the summer(during the July, August, September months).

3) These soaps/miniseries might have a downscale cast of 10-12 cast members that are featured daily in the plot action.

4) These small soaps may convince actors from different genres(Broadway, film, primetime TV etc.) to play lead roles in the 3 week soaps during their hiatus periods.(Assuming they tape two episodes a day, akin to PC's current taping schedule).

5) These soaps could experiment with different ways of editing(One soap could be presented live for three months, another soap could have a film look as part of it's show, etc.) and storytelling(why not take the "book" format a step further by adapting a book into a 13 week soap opera. Why not? Primetime and movies have done it? or what about an ANIMATED soap opera?)

There are so many interesting things that could happen if ABC decided to make such a bold step. If each minisoap were heavily promoted, it could peak viewer interest to tune in and see what happens.

What do you all think? Does any of this sound like something ABC would be willing to do? LOL.
