Do you think that strategically CBS needs to protect it's whole daytime block from too many changes? I think that some of the CBS daytime success has to be attributed to them having the same basic schedule for years and years. There's something to be said for that. I feel that is NBC's biggest weakness in daytime; they tinker with their shows too much and they don't have any patience.
CBS has to be careful not to rock the boat too much. You have to consider that Bob Barker isn't going to be doing TPIR for a whole lot longer so, even if they replace him, that's a big change in their longtime look. Combine that with the death of one or two of their soaps and suddenly CBS daytime is looking a lot different and ABC is the one with the long-term daytime lineup.
If you ask me, someone at one of the nets needs to JUMP on Ed Zwick and Marshall Herskovitz (Once & Again, My So Called Life, Thritysomething) and get them to do a soap or two. I would certainly LOVE to see a daytime retooling of My So Called Life overseen by these guys. I think it would be huge! Can you imagine if HBO ever decided to so a daytime soap? I'm drooling over the thought of that one because they would absolutely redefine the industry. OK so, on top of my Law & Order: Daytime idea, these are my "pie in the sky" wishes. hehehe
