Part of making sure CBS remains # 1 is by them dumping its
weakest show. CBS doesn't get sentimental either, they
canceled the long-running The Secret Storm, Love of Life, Edge of Night and Search For Tomorrow when those shows got in trouble with the ratings. So far its a plan that has
maintained their status as # 1 for decade after decade!
While at NBC and ABC, they run their shows into the ground
before they cancel them. This is why 2 of the shows I mentioned EON and SFT were quickly picked-up by ABC/NBC
because CBS's scraps looked very appealing to the rival
networks. I believe CBS really wanted to cancel GL
a few years ago when there were strong rumors of a 3rd
Bell soap in development, but there was also talk NBC
would pick-up GL if CBS were to drop it. I suspect CBS
didnt want to see GL go to NBC in the event NBC could
improve GL and make it a powerhouse hit it could be. But
now that AW is gone from NBC and GLs ratings are much lower than they once were, would anyone be interested in airing GL if CBS decides to cancel? I guess NBC would likely consider it, but they have a lot of trouble getting clearances for daytime timeslots.
