Well, I guess I'm an exception to Y&R's audience. However, I see your point. Y&R is vulnerable right now. I think the big problem is that it's just becoming too formulaic and they are making too many unwise plot choices.
Frankly, I don't even care about Victor and Nikki getting back together yet again. Of course once they get back together then the whole thing with Ashley's true sperm donor will hit and then they will break up and Vic will end up with Ashley. Ho hum.
And yes, we have yet another psycho on the loose in Genoa City. (Feigning worry) Gee, I hope he doesn't hurt Mac or Amanda. How many in a row is this? Tricia, Matt Clark, Victoria's stalker dude, etc. Y&R falls back on this stuff wayyyyyyy too often.
The teens are OK but the new Mac is pretty generic so far. Danielle is cookie-cutter too. Raul seems to have undergone a complete personality change. And Brittney, who was actually headed for classic super-bitchdom, has become pretty ho-hum too.
As far as Neil/Olivia/Alex are concerned, I don't even know where to begin. Right now it feels like Y&R is STILL keeping the African-American cast segregated into their own little mini-stories and, at this point, all they have left are the least exciting characters. How much more inbred can this become? Good lord, it's 2002! Can't we have a Brad/Ashely/Oliva triangle or Alex falling for Paul? It's truly time to mix things up a bit.
The show's biggest saving grace right now is that it seems to have the highest production values which, at least, makes all these lackluster stories look good.
