I, like you,have just begun a course for chronic neck pain
due to a spinal bone spur and a bulging disc. I have been through 3 rounds of physical therapy as well as 1 full year of chiropractic treatment. I have
been trying to relocate the nerve by traction, but
still have chronic pain, so I am taking Gabapentin.

I began with 300 for one week at bedtime, then 600 for
a week then 300 in the morning and 600 at bedtime. Next week I am to start taking 300 in the morning, 300 in the afternoon and 600 at bedtime. This is so I can
get an uninterrupted night of sleep without heavy-duty
narcotics. I have already noticed that my sleep patterns and ability to relax at night have greatly improved. I am hoping that as I start to take some during daytime hours, I will begin to feel some relief from the pain in waking hours as well.

My concern is whether there are long term side effects to this medication. All of the side effects I have seen thus far have been immediate side effects. If I continue to take this medication over a long term (since it is the only thing thus far to have brought me relief), should I be concerned with long-term, more serious side effects?
