Subject: My Ninth Task

To achieve an outcome that is set before, students will use the target language to solve a Task. This activity must be based in real life ones and the students can (and should) use any kind of language they want (e.g. body language). Always focused on meaning, a game or a talk for instance can be thought as important and as authentic as tasks. But they have to get the students attention. I remember now one experience that I had in a school in California (Mt. Diablo High). The teacher proposed us to find in a picture all words that began with the letter “j”. After some time, all objects were found, but we kept going on naming the rest of it. It was great, because the target language was used without questioning it.
The Task-Based course can be separated into 3 basic steps, according to Willis:

1. Pre-Task: The teacher gives out the task instructions and explains vocabulary.
2. Task Cycle: The students perform task, while teacher observes their performance.
3. Language Focus: Task examination and feedback to students.
