Subject: Task 9

Task-Based Learning focuses the tasks which students use the language to complete it, that is, the focus is not the language but the task. The intention is to give to the students the opportunity to use the 2L as they use their 1L: naturally. The activities are done in a meaningful context, reflecting real life, and the students are free to use any language they want to. It also provides interaction between students/teacher. The TBL is based on Krashen’s theory of 2L acquisition that poses that 2L is successfully acquired in the similar conditions to those present in 1L acquisition. The focus in TBL is the use of language but accuracy also takes place in this methodology. A feedback should be done when the teacher sees that her/his students need it. The teacher should keep a balance between fluency (provide by the task) and accuracy (provide by the feedback).

In according to McKinnon & Rigby the task should be organized in the following way:

- Pre-task activity
- Task cycle: task > planning > report
- Language focus and feedback
