Subject: Task 7

Analyze the following lesson plan having Ryan's text as reference.

By analyzing this lesson plan taking Ryan as a reference, I could notice some gaps within it. Firstly, it lacks a warm-up. It would be very enriching to the students if the teacher prepared a warm-up on the subject, to help students get involved to the theme and present some key vocabulary to those students who are not familiar with the subject.

Secondly, I think that some authentic material, apart from the internet, could have been suggested to the students. The teacher could use some time of the class to work with leaflets and newspaper ads with the students, as a way to let them more acquainted to the theme. The internet research could be a useful back up, additional material, since it is a rather time consuming option, and not always available to all students.

Wells is very successful in reaching writing and reading goals even though both listening and speaking goals are cast aside. I would propose a discussion in the classroom. The students would be divided into groups and then bring to class their research outcomes and discuss which offer would be the best one. It would also be a great opportunity to use grammar items such as the use of comparatives and the practice of explanations (e.g. because, that’s why, therefore, etc.).

Lastly, I think that feedback is crucial in any activity and the present one lacks it. Feedback is the best way to assess students’ progress and it helps both students and teachers take more advantage of the classes in order to get the best of them.
