TASK # 13
PROFA.: VERA MENEZES

Create a good communication activity and describe it to your classmates. Say which type it is, according to Littlewood.

ACTIVITY

Pre-activity: in pairs students discuss the following questions:
1. How do we use English outside the classroom
2. In which situations we should use it
3. In what ways we behave in different situations
Activity: game
Communicative objective: express a reaction in a real situation according to the context.
Ability: oral expression.
Level: intermediate.
Vocabulary: open (trying to use modal verbs)
Instructions: the teacher gives the students a game board and dices. The students play the game one at a time. The reaction of each student can or not be accepted by the group. If it is accepted the game go on. If not the person has to reformulate the reaction. When the student find a mouse or a leader he/she has to go up or down following the direction indicated by the figure.
Post- activity: working with a different partner of the pre-activity the students will compare their reactions and make comments on their performance. At this stage the teacher can correct the ways of behavior (answers) and discuss with the students what did they learn with this activity.
OBS.:The key board is on the next page.

COMMENT BASED ON LITTLEWOOD TEXT
This activity mixes the Functional communication because the student has to use the language in the specific situations they are asked to but also has to take account of the social meaning described in the steps of the game board. The social context in which the interaction takes place is also set. So they have to simulate and act in a role required by the context. Because of that the students should use the language they know in order to get the meanings as effectively as they can. It is a sharing , observing and evaluating activity in which the students are sharing and processing information. There is a development of skills for managing the interaction that learners can use, with a certain grade of freedom ,to express their creativity.
