TASK 12
Material Evaluation
Examine one textbook and choose a good comunicative activity
Describe it and then classify that activity according to the types presented by Littlewood.

Communication activity : job interview

Level: intermediate

Half the students get information about their role as na applicant for the job of assistant manager of a hotel and the other half about their role as an interviewer.
Divide the class into two groups, and tell one group that they are going to apply for the job and the other group that they are going to interview the applicant. Tell each student to find a partner within his or her group. The applicants might want to make a list of questions they might be asked , and then take notes as they discuss how to answer them. Also tell them to think of a list of questions they would like to ask the interviewer.
The interviewers should also form pairs and prepare some questions for the applicant as well as prepare themselves to answer questions about the job.
Give the students 10-15 minutes to prepare.
When they have finished pair up each applicant with an interviewer. Tell the interviewer in each pair to begin the interview by introducing him-or herself.
Also tell interviewers to take notes during the interview.
When the students finish, ask some of the pairs to report to the class. The interviewer can say if he or she would offer the applicant the job and why.
The applicant can say whether he or she would like to work for this company and why.

According to Littlewood, this is a social interaction activitie, because the learners use the appropriate language to the social situation and formal context they are in.
