TASK 12

Emiliane

According to Littlewood (1981:39), functional communication activities place learners in a situation where they need to use language for a well defined communicative purpose.
Examine one textbook and choose a good communicative activity. Describe it and then classify that activity according to the types presented by Littlewood.
Littlewood, W. Communicative language teaching.Cambridge: Cambridge Univeristy Press, 1981. p. 16 to 42 (xerox)
- Textbook – Double Take One
- Communicative activity – Unit 2B – “Show me round” / Page 15 – no. 04
- About the activity proposed – With a partner, or group, the learners must find differents places on the map proposed. However, the informations are fragmented and dispersed. It’s a defiance, “a problem”, that in the end will be solved with a “listen” help, when, Peter, a tour guide, in a interview, talk about the places and diverses attractions.
I believe that this exercise can be considered like a “functional communition, activity”, according to Littlewood, because to solution the problem proposed, it’s need interaction.
The students have to find the correct localization of some turistics points. However, every learner has differents informations that have to be organized. In this context, questions will be developed. It’s a important point, because the informations are complementary. So, In this activity, the learners will be “Sharing Informations with Restricted Cooperation”
