Task 12

I chose two activities that (I think) can be classified as functional communication activities.
The first activity is an oral questionnaire. One student has to make questions to the teacher and two other students. The questions are conducted, so this activity is proper to students of the elementary level.
Example:
‘Do you smoke?’ ‘Yes/No’ or ‘Yes, I do/No, I don’t.’
‘Do you drink?’ ‘Yes/No’ or ‘Yes, I do/No, I don’t.’

This activity belongs to the group of sharing information with unrestricted cooperation cited by Littlewood, because it’s based on information that teacher and the other students have to give about themselves. The questions are conducted as I said, and don’t demand elaborated answers: the students can use more elaborated answers only if they know how to use them.
The second activity that I chose is not from a textbook, but I thought it very interesting because it allows that students explore better what they know about a language. The answers of this activity are not conducted, what stimulates the interest of the students to improve their vocabulary.
It calls “Feel the Object”. The teacher collects various objects from the students and from the classroom and put them in a bag. Then the teacher asks the students to feel the objects in the bag, try identify or to describe them. This situation will give opportunities to the other students speak. I think that “Feel the Object” belongs to the group of sharing and processing information activities.
