Subject: Task 12

TASK 12

The activity chosen is from the intermediate student’s book named “Inside Out” by Sue Kay and Vaughan Jones, unit 3 .page 31.

There is a text entitled “A boyfriend’s nightmare” and the students are asked to work in groups, that is, they are supposed to state what a boyfriend’s worst nightmare could be and write down as many circumstances as they can think of. Then, they are asked to read the article.
On a second moment, students are supposed to make up the end of the story and later, check with the real end of it that is reported in one of the last pages of the book. After that, students are to answer questions comparing their responses to the article itself and also to think it over.

According to the types of functional activities described by Littlewood, the one above fits in the type of “Sharing and processing information”, once the main objective is to make students communicate by exchanging ideas, evaluating the information, negotiating and agreeing or not. It fits more specifically in the type of activity “Reconstructing story-sequences” where, firstly the students have to understand the part of the story that is put to them, think it over and then find a plausible end for it and finally they will have to talk about that situation and share their own decisions.
