How can we use portfolios to evaluate our students' progress?

The portfolio is a great advancement in learners’ assessment. It almost eliminates the anxiety caused by test. With the traditional tests students are tested only in pre-determinate times and away from this times they advancement are not checked. With the portfolio the assessment follows a continuum as the material developed is made in a regular basis and is all valued.

In this way, when the teacher stimulates the students to create a portfolio and states that will be no traditional tests (and this tests can sometimes be a dead end alley for the students and for the teachers), the teacher is constructing a more enjoyable environment. With this in mind the students can develop their works with more peace and many times with better results.
