 Grinding his teeth, the young bay only makes his severe pain known with a choked yelp. No whinnies, no dramatic screeches. Just pain, hot and red and filling up his life. But he knows he still has the upper hand, even as his own blood trickles down his face and stings his eyes.

As to the lashing hooves... they are only another added agony as he feels them hit mainly his legs but occasionally his front. Trying to concentrate on a thousand things at once, he hits out with his own legs in defense, to keep the back those of the so-called 'King'.
