Big Congratulations to Kody Lostroh!!! Great Finals to watch (would have been better to bet there... Oh well). Nice to see JB win the event after putting on such a great push to try and catch Kody.

Wonder if Kody is going to have some surgery now to fix up the arm/elbow? Did you see the look in Marchi's eye's after that last ride? Hope he carries that over into next year!

Haven't got it official yet but I would think that a big congratulations also needs to go out to Joann for winning the BSheet fantasy game!! Well deserved for all the work done during the year. Nice going friend!!

How about some conversations here about the change to the Finals for next year. I'm really glad that they got away from the 2 weekend format. I never really understood that. It certainly wasn't "fan friendly" at all. Who can afford, or want to, spend almost 2 weeks in Vegas?! To me, the new 5 day format sounds better for both fans and riders. What say you?

What a finals race. JB did everything he could do, but Kody didn't let up. CONGRATULATIONS TO THEM BOTH!

I'm all for them going back to the 1 weekend format. I never agreed with the other one either.

I haven't been since they changed the format but if I'm going I don't want to have to choose to miss the 1st 3 nights and there's no way I could afford to just be there for the entire time. I don't know anyone personally who has, unless they are competing or being paid to be there.

The way they've done it the past few years, there's basically 3 days of off time that's basically a waste of money. I know our rig sits out there the entire time and our rig drivers have 3 days off. This sounds like all fun and games, but I know it gets old after a few days.

It just makes more sense for the riders, contractors, personnel, fans, vendors, EVERYONE!

There's some newer fans that posted on the PBR website that they "shouldn't fix what isn't broken" but I guess they don't really understand everything.

Some people think it should be 10 days like the NFR. These guys don't need to get on PBR quality bulls for 10 days in a row. We all know that the NFR just doesn't have as many really rank bulls as the PBR does. They have a couple nights of eliminators.

I think they have made a very wise decision and I back it 100%.

Ok, I couldn't resist getting my 2 cents worth in here. First off, let me say that this is coming from someone who went to the PBR finals before I ever went to the NFR. When I first started "going" to the NFR, tickets were just a dream. We watched on big screen TV's that most of the major hotels had with a live feed from the arena. At first, I went just a few days, then both weekends then finally decided to stop going to the PBR and staying in Vegas for 10 nights of NFR. Now I will readily admit, that it is a lot less expensive to go to the NFR and stay in Vegas in December than it is to go to the PBR in November. Vegas NEEDS the NFR. They filled a time in Vegas that was absolutely DEAD. The town embraced NFR. Not just the Thomas and Mack and a few hotels that go Cowboy for PBR. The whole town. It is a hoot. You dang sure don't get bored. I had been to the PBR's cowboy Christmas before I went to the NFR Cowboy Christmas. I couldn't believe how huge the one at the NFR was. Then I found out that it was only one of three!

And Tracy as for your argument about the NFR quality bulls, it must have been a few years since you've watched the NFR, cause there are a lot more than just a couple of rounds of eliminators. Lots of the PBR bulls are at the NFR. The PBR is great and it has turned Bullriding into a stand alone event, but it just didn't have the draw that NFR does, so it is good that it cut back. Many, many people come for the first weekend of NFR and go home (Flint jokes about the waves of people that come and go at his outside the barrel that goes on 9 of the 10 days). Some are only there mid-week. Some come for the final weekend and a few are there 10 days. I don't why NFR has a stronger fan base but people stand in line for hours for the chance to buy standby tickets, they wait in line for hours to get a good seat at the casino's for the big screen TV. PBR will get to the level where tickets are totally sold out a year in advance, but they aren't there yet. They need to reach that level before they expand (and I really believe they will grow to 10 nights, just not yet).

Joann, I couldn't have said it better. Vegas as a whole embraced the NFR completely. Even befor the NFR begins you have people coming in for it. The Miss Rodeo USA competatition is held there about a week befor (used to be at the Excalibur, but may have moved since I left) The contactors start bringing their stock in to get aclimated. And from then on Vegas is a "cowtown". You can't go anywhere in or around Vegas during that time and NOT know the NFR is in town. Even the scantily clad women on billboards suddenly wear western hats and leather chaps LOL. It was the ONLY time of the year when I truly loved living there. During the PBR? unless your staying at the host hotel or near the T&M you wouldn't really think it was a big deal. Of course it may have become a little larger than that since I moved, but I doubt it.

I have to also agree with Joann about the stock. There seems to be some sort of idea that PRCA is somehow inferior (sp?) to PBR. PBR, if nothing else, has placed the bar higher as far as breeding really great bucking stock. The Thing is, not every bull can be used in the PBR..so they buck them in PRCA, NABA, etc. Besides that, lets also not forget that when PBR started their stock was plucked straight out of the NFR. Bodacious, Derringer, Red Wolf, playboy..I could go on and on. And lets not forget that they are going ten days straight. Not 3 days, then off a a few days and go another 4 days. Even PBR only bucks out their top ranked bulls a couple of times during the finals. The cowboys couldn't handle taking on super rank bulls each and every night. Same goes with the NFR. One night you may get a pen of spinners, the next may be the eliminator pen, and so on. You might get a bull having a bad day once in a while, but you won't see a whole pen of dinks
The only REAL difference is the money and how it's earned. In the PRCA many of the guys and gals are hitting the road on an almost daily basis just for a chance to get a check for a couple grand each weekend. Of course there is the exception of the larger rodeos like Ft.Worth and Denver that have great payouts. But Rodeo commitees have to divee up their money between 7 or more events. PBR only has to worry about one event..bull riding. So even though there are bullriders in the PBR who travel about the same as in the PRCA (due to the lower ranks of the PBR and trying to work up to the BFTS) They are still getting a better deal in most cases (admittedly not in every case).

Heres a few bulls that we saw at the PBR finals and will see again at the NFR
(These were just a few that I was able to confirm the contractors on. a few more I suspect, but PBR didn't have contractors noted/ or I couldn't get to that bulls stat page)
Beer Goggles, Big iron, Black Gold, Bible bender, Grey Dog, King of Hearts, Little Bo, MoBandy.com, Migrain, Necessary Evil, North Star, Ricky Bobby, Sting Machine. thats just those in both finals. There are a bunch more that were seen a different regular season PBR events.

I know why the NFR has a larger fan base, there are more different events and some people are fans of those events and not bull riding and it has been going on a lot longer.

I know a lot of the PBR bulls go to the NFR. I still say, from what I have seen...live events, on TV, etc., etc.... There are more higher quality bulls at PBR events as opposed to PRCA events, including Extreme Bulls.

Admittedly, being on the east coast, the chances of catching the NFR at a decent time, is pretty much hit and miss.

Personally, I'd rather see a pen full of rideable, spinners, that you can be 90 on and cover than a pen full of eliminators anyway. I get pretty bored with a bunch of 1-4 second rides.

Tracy, you are right. At most PRCA events, the quality of the stock is lacking. They tend to go with 1-3 contractors who have a few good bulls and horses, but not PBR quality. I've got to give the PBR credit, they have great bulls at all events. Maybe too great. I have to admit that I lost interest when too many guys bucked off too quickly. I stopped watching long before I lost versus on Direct TV and didn't miss it enough to change to another provider. My ideal event has EVERYONE riding for at least 6 seconds and lots of high 80's scores with a few 90's thrown in. I hate it when they get one jumped right out of the chutes.

But the NFR is different. There are lots of stock contractors at the NFR and the quality of the stock is great. The best of the best are there. And it is a 10 day party, even if you never step inside the Thomas and Mack!

I would love to go to the NFR some time, if I never step inside T&M. I have heard it's a GREAT time! Tried to get to work it this year, but too many people were competing for those positions.
