I agree that the movie is touching.

However, I disagree to the act of the main character to commit suicide or martyrdom by tracing the killer. Her karma may not return in a particular time or generation. If she cares for her friends and family's benefits, she should do her best to avoid that happen. Getting herself killed as bait just increases the guilt of the killer and adds to the pain of those who love her. She should not give up so soon to live a normal live and to defer the return of karma. If you love someone, you should think about what they need and what they want, instead of rushing to become a matyr or saint.

My understanding about karma is superficial. I heard from someone that serious wrongdoings may receive light punishment if all factors favour that. Also, karma may be deferred to the next next generation when all essential factors are there to exist, not necessarily the immediate next generation. If I were the heroine of the movie, I would try to forget about the karma and live a normal live, to love and to enjoy all the best in life.

There is no indication in the movie that Lau was destined to feel the pain for Cheung's death. Even if Cheung believes that she will finally lose her life for the wrongs she did in last generation, there is no sign that she must die before her other family members and Lau. She should at least try to live as long as she can. To capture the killer or to take revenge may not be a prime need for Lau. She did not need to die for that. She should live and take care of Lau's needs.

We should live for today, not for last generation or next generation. I personally believe in karma theory. It makes me feel better. The theory helps me to accept unfairness in life.
