Thanks for your comments.

I apologise that I made the following mistakes in my previous message.

(1) The scandal was in "Walkerton", not "Walkaton". 7 people and not several tens of people died because of drinking water contamination. Several thousand people was infected.

(2) MTR is not wholly owned by HK Government. Around a quarter of shares is in public hand. The merger now involves minority interests. The merger is much more complicated than I first thought.

I cheer for Liu Sau Dong and all the participants of the project for their courageous move and hope that they can succeed.

I hope no one will be laid off and all staff in KCR and MTR can get that assurance as soon as possible. It must be a bad feeling to wait for news about laying off.

Hong Kong needs job security more than anything. Job security should come first. Team spirits is important to corporate success. Viewing from the excellent services, I have no doubt that KCR and MTR have very talented people. This good morale must be preserved by all means.

The staff know best how to achieve the targets in terms of safety, fare cut and service improvements. Let them contribute their suggestions with corporate loyalty and good morale to better the systems.

Devil is in details. There may be a lot of problems ahead. I believe Liu Sau Dong can work it out.

I am just a news reader in Canada, another "Victoria Park Uncle". The news that KCR is going to merger with MTR is a surprise to me.

Jacob
