Ms Kwan,

Thank you for your response. Sorry that I have to use English because I do not know how to type Chinese.
The most obvious example is Scott, Secretary for Transport (ß\ݔ˾ʩ¸÷) in 1980's, same rank as Ip. He was a British civil servant. He was known to be a very capable officer, but also very arrogant. He was responsible for the serious transportation problem in HK east side during that period (it was before the Eastern Corridor was built). But the main cause of his failure was the proposal of electronic road pricing which caused widespread public objection. In the end he was removed from office by the Governor and sent to work in some barren island! He was not even a political appointee like Ip, and did not have the option of early retirement and get million dollar retirement benefits.
I wish to emphasize that I also do not like insulting remarks like "broom head" or any criticisms against Ip's appearance. That is meaningless. However she definitely should resign (or be fired by the CE) since she was a political appointee and her policy had caused so much discontent.
I think the members of HK LegCo are not mature enough also. They should not have tolerated officials like Ip or Lam Sui Lung. Will you tolerate your employee to talk to you like how they did? How can they treat the elected representatives of HK people in such arrogant way? One thing many HK people overlooked. Ministers in most democratic governments (like UK, Canada, Australia etc) are themselves elected representatives. They are chosen by the people to represent them in the government. They therefore can argue and disagree and even "exchange fire" with other members of parliament who are also elected representatives and politicians. But who are Ip and Lam? They work for the salary, just like what I did when I was still a civil servant. And please do not think that Ip resigned because she took responsibility for what she did. She was definitely forced to do so in order to save the government's fame.
I welcome your views or views of other readers. I totally agree that we should not use insulting or uncivilized language. But I want to ask other readers that if they are bosses, will they accept a staff talking to them like how Ip talked?
