I'm back In New Jersey and inherited my old house from my parents when they both passed away in the late 90s and early 2000s. Not really doing anything right now except helping out a lot of my neighbors.
I was doing auto repair but that went south with the state and federal regs makiinng a lot of independents go out of business including my former employer.
I need to get back ito my art and am trying to get back into my music again as well as looking for some way to keep the bucks rlling in at least enough to pay these horrendous bills for stuff that used to be cheap or at least reasonable , but of course we all have that problem now to one degree or another.
I hope you get the collection on digital before it goes away and if you do I would certainly like to get a copy some time since blues and it's derivitives were always one of my favorites.
So you are into O T country string and Irish now . Great I love both of those venues. I kept in touch with Fran and we went to a lot of the Celtic gatherings and pipe band meets for a while and some of the celtic music is really great stuff. I even went along when he attended a teaching event at Midlebury one year and sort of listened in on a few things that were happening. There are some great programs for Celtic Harp and Violin music up your way and of course there are and always were plenty of places where you can catrch more popular music of the type.

The roots of country string are so intertwined with the celtic traditions that some of the tunes go way back to the old country or at least their derived from some of those tunes over on the other side are they not ?
I loved the explanation I got from one of the celtic fiddle competitors when she came to play at Fort Ti way back when about how she was playing almost the same things in Celtic fiddle as she played in southern hill country music. The fact that many of the immigrants who settled there came from Ireland and Scotland way back in the colonial period and brought their music with them and that it evolved into the southern musical traditions of the area makes this easy to understand.
The influence of the blues and that tradition on more contemporary forms makes a nice blend don't you think ?

Before Harry stopped posting here I found out he was putting a lot of old vinyl onto CDs including some 78s in his collection. I need to go through the 78 collection myself and see what I might want to transfer in that fashion when I decide to finally do it.
I was transferring a lot of 33s to tape not long ago but digitalizing them can be used to remove some of the scrtches and other wear that came from playing the records in not so clinical environments. I can see that also helping with some of the more garbled 78 stuff that was not only stored in less than perfect circumstances but also probably somewhat damaged by those old windup phonographs with their less than perfect needles.
Of course hearing something on the original player does have it's charm but getting the best from some of the old recordings needs some help in the program to clean up the white noise and rediscover the original.

More later maybe....
