I enrolled in his course, Philosophy, (probably 101, or equiv. name for the class) Something I learned in his course, which I'd referred to over and over again in my mind throughout my life, was the definition of 'morality, which was essentially what would be for the good of society.' I can hear him pontificating this 'morality" point, at the home of Bill Congdon, in the evenings, where the class was held. Even now, whenever I consider issues, who to vote for, how to live my life, raise the boys, etc., it has been this a-priori notion I've returned to over again...as I understood it, from this then trusted mentor.
