What I teach my students is that moral decisions are decisions that are made for other than personal satisfaction or profit. That in no way suggests that such decisions are good for other folks, because by that rubric Pol Pot and Adolf Hitler made moral decisions.

What I suggest to my students is that cultures and societies are not on an equal plane and it's disingenuous to argue for cultural relativity-some are clearly better and more respecting of human life and potential than others. The members of such societies and organizations have proved by the general tenor of how they conduct themselves on an individual level that they're worthy of praise.

Others are not.
