... far apart on some issues, but I think that the closer you look a Palin the less you are going to like her.

She's not some innocent "family" hunter who just wants to follow the Alaskan tradtion of independence through harvesting game meat. She enthusiastically supports "sport hunting" - or as I call it, "killing for fun." And she's an enthusiastic proponent of chasing wolves with helicopters and shooting them down like fish in a barrel (including with automatic weapons). She actually calls that "hunting!"

Then there's "Creationism" and her insistance that it be given "equal weight" to evolution in school curricula - as if this "religious-doctrine-based" superstition (particular to Christians, who make up less than 10% of the world's population) had a legitimate place in public schools. I know you are a person of faith Rick (as I am in my own way) but I can't imagine you'd support that kind of claptrap being shoved down the throats of public school students - many of whom may subscribe to divergent religious beliefs.

Then there's her absolutist, "NoHow, NoWay" stance on abortion - not simply rejecting it for herself, but seeking to prohibit other women and from making their own free, informed choice about their own bodies, even in the case of incest and rape. Palin insists that such women must be forced by the government - even against their own will and judgment - to carry those ill-conceived foetuses to term. I can't imagine that someone who is as much of a libertarian streak as you do could possibly support that kind of government interference in citizens' private lives - however much you, like me, dislike abortion.

And there were her remarks to her church about the War in Iraq™ being a "task from God." I know you don't approve of Al Qidah's declaration (also rejected by the overwhleming majority of Muslims) that Jihad against America is "blessed by Allah," and I can't believe you'd support someone who claims that our struggle with Iraq is somehow a "holy crusade."

Then, of course, there's her complete lack of experience, education or preparation in foreign affair and international relations, national affairs, military affairs, economics on the national level, etc, etc, etc,. You can argue that others are also in some degree less prepared than we might wish - McCain on economic affairs, Obama on executive management - but this is woman who hasn't even been exposed to a whole broad range of ideas, familiarity with which is essential to a person who is going to be "one heartbeat away."

When I posted the picture, I wasn't thinking of "animal cruelty" as much as "trophy hunting," the "killing for fun" aspect that Palin has repeatedly says she "enjoys." And I did think it was a little insensitive to expose a young child to the killing and gutting of an animal. I mean, I know beef comes from slaughterhouses, but I wouldn't take a pre-adolescent child to visit one. That kind of insensitivity, which I sensed in many of Palin's remarks, raises yet another red flag about her for me.

I'll be intersted to hear what you think as more is revealed about her.
