I get where you are coming from lori but the phrase Arthur used is an idiomatic expression that is still in common use and is almost never used in a derrogatory manner.
Same as " there's an ass for every seat " for example which can be interpreted to be derrogatory as In " There's an Ass for every seat " implying the person being addressed is the nown in question.

JIm's response is more of an historical background of cause and effect which it seems is being deliberately ignored and spun for the benefit of the political season as usual.
People are getting tired of the excuses and the blame game particularly from an administration that assumes no blame for what they have done and keeps trying to pass it back to the previous administration which was doing fine up till the Ds got control of congress when things began to degrade thanks to who was in control of how the money is spent and what it is spent on.

The Bush admin may have been in power when TARP was passed but the banks all payed back what they borrowed or were forced to take under that program and only about 40% of that money was given out during the Bush administration with the rest during the OBama admin who gave a lot to the corporations who helped him get elected by giving him more than his opponent and also a lot to corporations that employed the union people who also helped him get elected... or did everyone miss those facts as usual ?

Stimulous money passed by the democrat controlled congress , various otther programs intended to furthur their ideological pursuits and not passing budgets for two years ( Harry Ried never even allowed them to come to the floor for a vote which has never happened before because it is one of the primary duties of congress to pass the budget even if you are not in agreement with everything in it ) and a persistent attempt to block any coordinated action between the two houses of congress while attempting to shift the blame to the other party which , even if you disagree with their agenda. actually did pass things with votes from both parties by the way unlike what the Dems did with their pet projects not even allowing the Rs to put anything into any of their bills or debate and suggest removing things that we just cannot afford to do right now.

The end result has been more divisive activities by the Ds than usual and more spin and a lack of balls by failing to accept what they did is tha cause of any of the present economic problems.

Any wonder the public has decided to protest and that the government has the worst approval ratings ever ?

Well Obama promised change and gave it to you, not for the better but for the worse ( he never said it would be good for anyone just that it would change ) .
I said during that election I reservbed judgement and I did. Actions speak louder than words and so far all we have gotten from him is words. Any action has been via a failed congress and through the back door of the white house using unelected appointees and the usual attempts to circumvent the congressional branch by using the courts and the cabinet departments to create rules via Fiat without the representatives of the people involved.

For these reasons I think the occupy people are gathering in the wrong place if they want to lay blame or try to get action from the government to fix the problems thay seem to be complaining about.
Add in that some of the groups who lobbied for what this admin has done are now claiming to support or backing the " protests " and a clear patter emerges with either previous help in creating what claims to be a grass roots movement or another attempt to coopt the movement for political advantage like what the Ds did with the anti war movement back during Vietnam even though many of the people who joined in were the same ones who put us in there in the first place.

Caveat Emptor
