Your first year the one before I got there was when Tony Booth tried to go through the slalom course they had made for the internationals and hit one of the poles which was frozen in solid which shattered his leg.
Lucky for him the experts for sports medicine were still available at the hospital to fix him up but he spent the next year or so in recovery before going back to skiing once that was done.
The first year I was there was indeed heavy snow and very cold. that was the year that it got down to 65 below one night and was still 35 below the next morning. that was accompanied by about a foot of snow I think which was why I had parked at the top of the entry slope for the paradise parking lot so I could get out for my early morning class with Dr Blanchard. the VW transmission froze and Al Catheron Picked me up wlaking to the main building or I would have had frostbite on my feet by the time I got there.
That was also a trimester year and I came up between trimesters to finish a class and got snowed in at Westhavers when we got three foot of snow overnight so had to dig out the entire drive to the street.
That year when I left nj there was no snow here , a dusting in Albany and fifteen foot of snow piled on the side of the roads in NH wioth 18 feet piled behind it. Trucks needed to stop in passing pull offs so trucks coming in the orher direction could pass by because the roads were not wide enough for two trucks side by side but just barely wide enough for two cars or pickups to pass each other.
I think that was also the year that Cannon Mountain called up the school and offered free skiing to everyone becuase they had a heavy snowfall and the equipment was not enough to prep all the slopes before the skiiers came up on the weekend. People who took advantage of the offer ( which also was free for any skiers in the area ) said it was like the back side of Aspen up there with deep powder most p[eople had no Idea how to deal with but a hell of a lot of fun to ski , just a bit too much so people got tired easily.

With the exception of the year all the snow fell in the south and Virginia had better skiing than new england I think it was usually good snowfall by the end of october even if it decided to warm up enough to melt most of it and put a lot of ice on things including the crossovers on the slopes and the parking lots where melt water could not drain properly.
