Subject: Wandering Through

Just passing through to see what folks are talking about and add a note. Been lurking here off and on since these sites were established.
I went to Franconia '76-'77, one of the more profound periods of my life. It was difficult that year, yet rewarding. Franconia was challenging, intellectually and personally. It was not 'til years later I realized how much the experience, including studying Freiere's "Pegagogy," affected my world view, my approach to problem solving.
I moved from Franconia to a Movement for a new Society Commune in Philadelphia-then moved to California and other western states for 30 years.
What I remember, and miss, is having others to talk with to disucuss ideas, to mutually challenge one another to learn and to grow.
The autumn was vibrant. I had '60 Chevy with large fins and decorated with flower motifs. After dinner a number of us would fill the car and drive through the backroads enjoying the invigorating air and scenery.
One night I took three students and drove to Montreal. The tires on the car were bald, the light snow became a blizzard. We got through customs ok but as soon as we got past the border guards the car stalled.
We found ourselves in deep political doo doo along with not being dressed for the weather; It was the night Quebec voted to succeed, and no one would speak anything but French, so we couldn't get any help with the car. We found a loose wire in the ignition, taped it, got the car started and crawled back to Franconia.
It would be nice to hear from some Franconians.
