I hazily remember a community meeting convened right around the time Nixon authorized the mining of Haiphong Harbor and resumed the bombing of N. Vietnam; sometime in 1972. Everyone was outraged and agitated and as I recall, a handful of students ran to the roof, tore the flag off the Main Building, and returning to the meeting room were about to destroy it when someone (Leon? Neil? Some other adult?) told them the flag had lain over Pops's son's coffin. That put a stop to the act and I think the students, properly chagrined, returned it to the flagpole.
Does anybody else remember this? I can't swear to the details, but I am sure there was a disturbance involving the War, a flag and Pops.
