First off, the Native Americans were here first, so they weren't really 'immigrants' in the way the word is being used about the Arizona situation. As most people know, it was the Europeans who were the 'immigrants.' You can't make the jump that Arthur's comment therefore means what was done to the Native Americans was 'okay'.

Nor was what was done to Jewish refugees 'okay'. They are separate issues, and shouldn't be muddying the waters in this debate.

"Illegal immigration is the movement of people across national borders in a way that violates the immigration laws of the destination country. Illegal immigrants are also known as illegal aliens to differentiate them from legal aliens. Conversely, illegal emigration refers to unlawfully leaving a country." Wikipedia

So by the very definition, those who are here illegally SHOULDN'T BE HERE. They have not come to this country legally. It doesn't matter where they are from, but they are not supposed to be here. The difficulty comes if only dark skinned/Hispanic looking people are targeted - the police should be asking a wide variety of people for ID, not just a certain type, which I suspect most people fear will be the result.

Here is an interesting article from a Swedish newspaper, regarding illegal immigrants in Europe:

I have no idea what the solution to this problem is, but name calling and wild accusations surely are not. But this is, after all, Amerika.
