" I have no idea what the solution to this problem is, but name calling and wild accusations surely are not. But this is, after all, Amerika."

If I was inclined to be argumentative I would object to the germanic spelling of the name of the continent/hemisphere/country nick name.

The native americans were here first though they immigrated from somewhere else as well unless someone can find proof that they were a separate species from the rest of us which ain't highly likely , so immigration has been the way of life for the hemisphere ( as well as the rest of the world unless you can accept the instant coming into being of all humans in all places at the same time in a religious sense.
Europeans came here as long ago as the Vikings well before the sailing ships began bringing conquerors , conquistadores, and settlers to " colonize " the hemisphere for the greater good of the king/country/religious movemnet , or what ever.
For many years there were NO restrictions on who got to come other than those set by the countries who claimed ownership by colonization , and then by the government of the united colonies for the US and the other colonial/post colonial states that came into being.
In the US the rules were rther undefined up until the influx of very large numbers of immigrants from many european couintries. The Scots being one group with the clearances, the Irish , and the germans, the italians and so forth.
Real restrictions though began in the mid 1800s with the imnposition of quotas , the most notable being for the chinese from the west coast in , and grew to include almost all nationalities from all parts of the world.
Quotas of course mean nothing to anyone coming in without passing through the system. No visa, not entry check , no passport or id in many cases especially if they are running from somewhere and do not want to be found, coming here to do something illegal , or just trying to get around rules and checks that might keep them from being allowed to come.

Debatable as to how much restriction is too much or too little and not something that can be easilly decided by any means.

since we are talking the southern route of entry for the most part which has been used by mexicans. central americans , and south americans for decades if not centuries the assumption is that any law requiring people to carrey ID and legal ID at that can be discriminatory. the Arizona law however requires that a law officer have reasonable suspician of wrongdoing to stop someone then reasonable suspician they might be illegal to ask for ID . It was based on existing federal law but was changed twice to make it more restrictive on what an officer of the law can do in a given situation aside from what the preexisting restrictions on what they could do already required of them .

Existing federal law however requires all aliens in the country to carry ID at all times and show it when asked. Federal officers can stop anyone for no reason whatsoever and ask for ID. That means the arizona law is much more restrictive than federal law... look it up.

Anyone who thinks that there is no problem with illegals entering the country from the southern border from mexico or that the problem has not continued to get worse , that illegal transportation of drugs, goods, and human trafficing from below the border has NOT gotten worse and is now at its worst level yet is either lying to themselves and others of has been asleep for the last twenty years, doesn't believe the violence on the mex /american border exists, doesn't think peoiple come here to run from that, and other opppression , come here to raise money to send home to their relatives who live in poverty , or come here looking for a better way of life including better healthcare and job opportunities without trying to go through the limited immigration quotas that still exist.

Not saying all of the illegals are criminals though there are plenty of those, or that all of them are just rying to take advantae of things WE offer without any requirement that someone actually proove they are entitled to recieve , but rather that this is a long standing problem that just gets worse and no one has really been able to address it in any way to shut it down and provide a viable alternative for those who DO want to come here legally but can't for whatever reason other than those which SHOULD keep them out ( IE criminal or known terrorist, existence of a preexisting health condition that is something they could spread if not cured first, or any other such things that should be a red flag full stop.

just my opinion of course, some people might believe there should be no restrictions whatsoever and to hell with us all when the consequences hit the fan...
