Depends a lot on where you are and how many possile clients are in an area.
One reason we did not have any broadband here was that according to the cable companies we did not have enough people living in the twp to warrant putting in service ( Fran DeChame had cable in Fair Haven Vt with a lot fewer people in town than what we had here , maybe a labor cost thing ? ).
The phone guys if they can't run either fiber optics or some sort of cellular system cheap enough don't want to pay what it costs to run a system in many areas either. Since you are in or near the mountains the cells are pretty much out needing too many repeaters and the fiber optics probably won't get up your way till we are all long gone.
However never say never since there are always options and new ideas coming down the pike. soome sort of satellite linked system might eventually come your way just like satellite TV came along for a lot of out of the way places and that usually means other systems will figure out how to compete since they all think they are loosing customers when someone else can serve the local needs ( not when they have an exclusive just when they have competition ) .

Unfortunatly it's the way things work. Now if someone locally could come up with a sat linked network that got service for the area I bet most of you all would be signed up in a heartbeat especially if it was some sort of package with a good price...

For reference while they were passing this twp by there was a fiberoptic network underground along rt 202 that linked ATT buildings all along central north jersey that was only about 200 yrds from my house. you don't know how many times I though about running a new line out there and " stealing " service just so there would be an alternative to dialup.

Dialup is fine as long as you don't want to do anything that requires large files being uploaded and downloaded but for those it's the pits even when you have a choice of locations to hook into the system. DSL was better but had slowdowns when large use periods occurred. Now there are so many people who moved to cable or fios that DSL is not too bad anymore.

Howie is on Fairpoint but not out in the boonies I think so may have a better hookup than you do.

Meanwhile you gotta live with " patience is a virtue " ...
