Well you got me laughing with that one Mel.

Get a longer cord for the hookup.... suggest they get a wireless router so anyone with a wireless capable laptop can be away from a direct connection and still get on the net.

I do think though that some bright entrepreneur could devise a way to get local service to some of the more remote areas and maybe both make a profit and do a service to the general public in places like the north country .

If we can send people and robotic crawlers to the moon we should be able to get good communications to people in the boonies.

Hell it wasn't that long ago relatively speaking that rural electric service meant a dc wind generator on someones farm running a few bulbs in the house and barn.
Getting the electric net up and out to the rural areas was both a big project and a big controversy for a while back there in the last century.

Now as a last resort of course maybe the government can add rural services to that next generation stimulus ( whoops " jobs ' ) bill they are planning on doing soon... if they ever get the last two or three going of course....
