Fairpoint bought all of Verizon's land lines, local service, and internet service in Vermont, NH, and Maine. They were in over their heads from day zero. Cutover from Verizon to Fairpoint was delayed twice, then went badly. Billing was so messed up that people who were on a direct pay plan were getting hit with late fees (think about that one!) Local service was out for many days for many people. Whole email accounts disappeared. The VT, NH and ME Public Utility Commissions have had several Come To Jesus meetings with Fairpoint to get straight answers to how and when they will get their problems fixed. Verizon recently went into Chapter 11. I suspect either they (or their successor) will get it together...eventually.
