Be careful what you wish for, Kwai Chang. There be strange politics in that part of the world and a certain amount of emnity for those who are not of the blood and soil born. But the scenery is incomparable, so I'm told, even though the farthest west I've been is Valdez town.

If you can make it pencil out, so much the better. There seems to be an exodus of people heading to warm places these days, what you might call equity emigres. I've thought at times that it might be nice to retire to some place like Monterrey in old Mexico, there's a medium sized community of over the hill gringos of modest means there, and the social security check goes a lot farther which is why folks are there in the first place.

On the reality hand, I'll likely die in harness here in Ioway, but the life here finally having our own pad is sweet indeed. The apple tree in the yard has been bountiful, producing baskets of Jonathans, and the rosebush bloomed yesterday. The sugar maples will reach maximum blaze next week and the oaks will be a week or so after that. I've got plans to plant multiflora roses next year even though the Dragon Lady is agin it. I'll just do it and deal with the flak later.
