In reply to: D Jam 's message, "Re: Sorry folks but it’s going to get a lot worse" on 18:39:48 10/15/08 Wed

Of course it can get a lot worse D Jam it's a long way to the depression level of the thirties but there are a lot more people out there now so a smaller " recession " hits people in larger numbers than back then and the numbers affected can be comparable to those of the depression era where there was 25 percent or about that unemployed, banks in distress and not lending, businesses going out all the time and all the other stuff that is going on now.
We also were a bit more isolated than now from the rest of the global economic situation so WE got our depression AFT the other guys were already in it up to their necks in other parts of the world ( think baskets of marks to buy a loaf of bread for instance in Germany in the twenties while US citizens were buying large fast cars and stocks that promised big profits then died before the companies even got into production and the standard of living looked like it would never come down.
And by the way that was under thr Rs not the Ds who came in with the new D(ealer) reform movement.

Nobody really cares why the " bailout" was necessary. Not the guys who pushed programs that directly contributed to the creation of the problems nor the guys who didn't hold it in check and prevent the excesses. The only ones who care are the ones affected by all this mismanagement over thirty years and many political party changes.

You're right about the Nixon /Kennedy recount but the FLA situation is a lot more muddy than that one with recounts that were altered whenever the results seemed to point to a loss by the party that controlled the state supreme court and had it rig the election process which required the US supreme court to step in and say go back and do it right and follow the laws of your own state. WHo won and on what altered set of standards is something that will occupy historians for decades to come if of course anyone really cares by that time.

Funny thing is the only registered candidate I have heard who actually said anything that makes sense is Ralph Nader whom I am not very fond of for rigging the data that launched his career as a " consumer advocate " and political activist. But he did say a lot that made sense when he was interviewed recently on one of the news programs.

If there was to be a movement to " write in " anyone who might actual;ly have a chance of winning and a chance of actually fighting for change it would probably be Ralph who most likely would have little or no chance of taking any of the electoral votes with the two party system having rigged the districts to keep reelecting the same people or their chosen successors for the forseeable future.

Of course then Ralph would need to find an effective group of other people to join his cabinet and I doubt that he would be very sucessful in that........

Meanwhile the beat goes on......
