There is both god and the devil in the machine.
My Father always bought a new Buick every 5 yrs., 1979 he found in the dealers showroom floor a used 5 year OLD Mercedes with a Huge V-8 on the showroom floor and was WAY impressed with the Buick that they made for him that year. When he found out it was a forign car he wanted NO part of it till my brother wispered in his ear Dad, this car will top out at over 130 mph...brother and I bedeviled the Mass, State Police for some years with this macinne untill my Pa blew the engine in W.Va, overheated (it had NO maintaince for almost a decade) waiting for the idiot light to come on...the MB dealer in Mass. promptly sent a brand new 124 down on a truck, we abused it with abandon for nearly a year!
A little coffee grinder compaired to US/Tet. V-8s, wheel tipped gently towards the horizon, it screamed down sidewalks, parked easily on snowbanks, and had good heat on frozen lakes!
The things that made Fiat viable was their percise life cycle of parts, a vast industry that the commies in Italy and USSR could not really copy.
Lots of Ladas in Little Poland, Toronto Still due to free union parts, lots run on natural gas.
Skodas?
Dig the fine French afiliate design Tata of India Air Car?
(just got land for a factory) Good Design shsould last for a while.. A GOOD investment esp. as Obama will proably lead us into Pakistan...
I miss most my 304 Peugeot SW, I blew up my (Citroen Powered) 405 Peugeot in Idaho deux mille deux.
Does 7% of global pop. actually drive? horror!
