Date Posted: 10:11:18 09/27/03 Sat Forgot to mention - somewhere in the beginning, it is made clear that Gallant is no longer a med student - he is a doctor as of TODAY. I'm not remembering intricacies here, so maybe someone can fill in if I miss something important, but I think here basically they started bringing in the victims of that Volvo car crash. Neela (the new gal) is a third year med student, and has never been in a trauma situation before, but Dr. Lewis is calm and includes her as they start working on the mother. Pratt is working on one of the kids, and sees Neela working in the other room. As soon as he is finished with what he's doing, he makes a beeline for the comely lass and starts taking over the role of her mentor. She is appreciative of his help, but completely professional and not at all flirtatious. Chen sees them working together from another room and scowls petulantly. The front desk guys are having a really bad day because, in the course of all the construction work, the phone lines have been screwed up, and apparently all the calls to the hospital are coming through their lines. They are very cranky about it and consider not answering the phones at all. Carter goes to the new lounge and finds a plastic bag of things with a note from Abby saying "You forgot your stuff." He thumbs through some clothes and a few pics of them together. Abby and Carter end up working together on a patient and their personal issues cause tension in the room when they disagree on minor courses of action in the treatment of the patient. Neela is sent to personally pick up the labs on the soccer Mom when she (the patient) unexpectedly crashes. Neela saves the day when she returns and announces (modestly) that she examined the labs along with the lab doctor and that the patient has a rare blood condition that had caused her both to pass out while driving and to react strongly to the medicine that the ER staff was administering. Bitter, andgry Chen doesn't trust her and calls the lab herself and verifies that what Neela said is the case. Later, out of Neela's earshot, Chen makes a pissy remark to Pratt about his apparent interest in Neela. Neela leaves that trauma and Gallant helps her choose a patient to work on. They go together to evaluate an elderly woman with some sort of infection in her arm that requires a shunt to be put in so that blood can be drawn periodically. (And, by the way, we know this is important because the camera lingers on Neela drawing the blood - twice - got it, thanks) Dr. Lewis counsels Abby to talk to Carter. Abby doesn't want to, but when Carter comes over, Dr. Lewis gives her a look behind Carter's back, and Abby and Carter make plans to have coffee outside in a few minutes. Neela and Pratt are evaluating a patient together. Jealous mean Chen comes over and demands that an additional test be ordered along with whatever Pratt had already instructed. Pratt gently asked if Chen really thought that was necessary, and Chen's head exploded and a giant dragon's head popped out of her neck and swallowed Pratt whole.
