Janet should inform her children that each of them has a possability to develop Alzheimer's disease because there is a family history. She should not force her children to recieve, or not recieve their genetic information. She should make the information available to her children to give them an opportunity to know their genetic information. It is up to her children wether or not to use the information.
Family members can give their relative their opinions on genetic testing and/or their advice on what to do if there are certain outcomes. Although the patient can listen to their family's opinions, the decision to go through with the genetic testing is ultimately their own. The decision should be based on extensive research, and thought. The questions people with a possability for a genetic disease is "Do I want to be prepared and plan for the future?" or "Do I want to live my day to day life without fear?". No decision is wrong it just dapends on the patient's personality.
