Since Janet only wants to stay alive when she is completely healthy, her family, physicians, and friends have to carefully monitor Janet's attitude, feelings, and actions. Janet seems to be in a kind of denial; one would think that by having a close relative go through the experience, she would understand it and be able to handle it. However, Janet feels that the only way to get out of this issue is by committing suicide. Janet's family and close friends have to now continually watch over her, and take everything she says seriously. They have to watch Janet's attitude towards everything, even something as simple as her body language. They need to watch out for any sign of depression and anger, because in Janet's case, she just might want to put an end to these feelings. Janet's family and friends also have to make sure Janet is not covering up her feelings. The only way they can do this successfully is to always have someone with Janet. Her friends and family have to give her the support she needs, and try to instill upon her an optimistic attitude. Janet's physician needs to be careful of what they say to Janet. If the physician tells her the truth flat out, she might not be able to handle it. The physician also needs to monitor Janet and see how she is doing psychologically. By even having a short conversation with Janet, the physician will be able to tell how she is feeling. I personally feel Janet is being unreasonable. I understand her grief and I understand that she has a real reason to be scared, but to commit suicide and devastate all of her friends and family members, and even the physicians is just being irresponsible and unreasonable. Janet's family is already upset since she has Alzheimer's Disease, but if Janet went and committed suicide, I do not think that her family and friends would be able to handle it. Janet's friends, family, and physicians really need to talk optimistically about her health and well-being, and tell her that she can get through this disease.
