I think that Janet's children should be informed about their inheritence of the marker gene for alzheimer's. Just as Janet wanted to know, I think it is important for her children to know, although it may depend on the age of the childen. If they are at a resoanble age and understand the meaning of inheriting the gene, I think they should be told. If they are told, they will at least have time to prepare themselves for the future. Although there is nothing that can be done to prevent the disease, I believe it would be better if the childrn could prepare themselves for the future and start thinking about any decisions they may have to make because of the alzheimer's. I think that family members should only have a say in genetic testing if the person who is to be tested cannot make the decision themselves. If a person is capable of making a sound decision, then it is their right to decide whether or not they want to have the genetic testing done and it is not up to his/her family member to decide. If a person is unable to make a sound decision for some reason, then I think his/her family members should decide for him/her and hopefully the family members will end up making the right decision.
