Given that there is no known cure for Alzheimer’s, and given the emotional stress placed on Janet’s family, there was a good reason for Janet to be tested. The results of Janet’s testing are that she is at the highest risk for genetic predisposition to Alzheimer’s. By this knowledge, good planning and medical and social management can ease the burdens on the patient and family. This can also help her make arrangements for the future pertaining to her family and children. In addition, Janet being tested may also be a good thing because it can prepare her children to get tested in their adult life for Alzheimer’s because they have the possibility of inheriting the gene. I think the person that is getting tested should decide what constitutes a good or bad reason because it is them who might be afflicted.
