If I were Janet’s doctor, I would try my best to council the patient and provide positive support. As Tina stated in reference to cancer patients, suggesting finding support groups to help her emotionally would be a good idea. I also agree with Tina that it is the physician’s job to recommend a way for the patient to cope with their latest news of a diagnosis of a life-threatening disease. I feel that not only should the medical professionals help the patient deal with his or her feelings of inevitable guilt, but the family and perhaps counselors should help as well.
