Joss may try to defy the usual "hero" conventions by allowing Buffy to age normally. I'm imagining something like the Horatio Hornblower series, in which the character begins as a midshipman in the Royal Navy, and eventually retires as (I think) an admiral, facing different types of problems at different stages of his career. Of course the fact that Buffy is already the Slayer equivalent of a general will make that difficult, but if anybody can find a way around this problem it would be Joss. (Maybe in 10 years or so she could become one of the PTB - she already acts like one much of the time anyway).
