Subject: Thoughts on "No Future for You" - Part 3 - *** Spoilers ***
In reply to: Rich 's message, "Random thoughts on "No Future for You" part 3 - Spoilers" on 12:39:17 11/08/07 Thu

Gigi is being used by Roden, and has been betrayed by Faith. Faith was used by Mayor Wilkins and is being used by Giles. Giles fears he may have been betrayed by Faith.

There's no question Gigi is being used by Roden. Of course, the question is what will be her reaction once she finds that out? Will she recall that "Hope" tried to suggest exactly that just a short while before?

When Faith tells Gigi that she's had experience with "older men" using her for their own needs, at first I was thinking she meant Giles, but then it occurred to me she was more likely thinking of Mayor Wilkins and of course the Watchers Council. I'm not sure she's including Giles just yet-- I sense a lot of ambivalence there.

I don't think Giles fears that Faith has betrayed him so much as he thinks she may be in over her head, despite his pleas to the contrary. What I've been wondering all along for the past three issues is whether Giles really wants Gigi dead without proof of her relationship to this upcoming apocalypse, and that is exactly why he wanted Faith for the mission.

I'll elaborate on that just a bit, because my theory got a small boost in this issue, when we saw Buffy's reaction to Gigi's admission about killing a Slayer. I'd like to know if anyone else thought that there was no question that Gigi was a dead woman had Faith not intervened.

Despite what he told Faith about the necessity of Gigi's death, is this what he really believes? Is this a case where Giles feels that Faith's history is an actual advantage in this case rather than Buffy's? That she would have more insight into the mind of a "damaged" Slayer than Buffy would?

I have to love the irony that in the last panel, Gigi is about to kill "Hope" because she thinks she's been betrayed, when in reality her new friend just saved her life.

Finally, is anyone else wondering whether the sword Gigi was using against Buffy was enchanted? The little flashy white stuff on the blade and around Roden kind of suggested that to me. Would the sword have been useless in Buffy's hands? And if so, does that mean that Faith saved both Gigi and Buffy?

I'm eagerly awaiting the conclusion to this arc. My (unspoiled) speculation is that Buffy is going to kill Gigi, but not until after Faith tries to save her.
