Subject: The Old Ones

“Also were they Old Ones, since i don't know what the Old Ones were, were they demons or another type of gods.”

The exact nature of the Old Ones has always been somewhat vague. They were the first demons, and as such they were “pure.” All the other demons we see on the show have interbred with humans at some point or are otherwise “tainted,” but not the Old Ones. They were also really, really big. And they appear to have had god-like powers (though the Buffyverse draws a distinction between gods and demons, with the Old Ones clearly on the demon side). I guess the best way to think of them is as something akin to Lovecraft’s elder gods. They ruled the Earth for a long period that I believe is described as the Primordeum.

The Old Ones were eventually driven out of the earthly dimension by humans, leaving behind only their tainted brethren and vampires. The timeline of events is a bit hazy, though. I would imagine that, given Illyria’s description of them, the Wolf, Ram, and Hart were *not* Old Ones but managed to somehow step into the power vacuum following the Old Ones’ overthrow.

So, in short, the Old Ones were big, scary, god-like demons killed or driven away in ancient times. The Senior Partners are probably not Old Ones.
