Your point about Buffy being a once in a lifetime experience is really what I was trying to suggest with my comments about SMG. I loved her as Buffy and it is hard for me to conceive of Buffy without thinking of SMG. I think she was fantastic, much better than I expected from other works I had seen her in. If there is ever an Emmy for crying, I think she would have to be one of the prime contenders (and just about every time she cried, I was right there with her). My point about other actors being able to also play Buffy was not to diminish her abilities or even to speculate on what another actor would have brought to the role; it was to suggest that the whole Buffy experience was special. A Buffy without SMG would have been different but, provided Joss was still the driving force, it would have still been special. I just wish SMG could acknowledge just how special Buffy was. You say that time is understandably not now but I think James Marsters understands the unique opportunity and is not shy about acknowledging same.

I think sometimes we tend to loose sight of the collaborative nature of the whole enterprise and tend to focus on the actors, as they are the visible presence. I think Buffy is somewhat unique as it seems the writers are even bigger stars than the actors, at least for a sizable portion of the fan base. I saw where JM said that he was only partially responsible for the popularity of Spike – it was a combination of the dialog, the costuming, the lighting, the camera work etc. It is the incredibly talent and efforts of all those involved that makes me wish SMG would acknowledge the special place Buffy has in TV history.

As to special features, I ordinarily do not buy a movie or TV show based on the extras, I buy it for the movie or the episodes. However, I think the recent Chosen Collection was somewhat unique. The only new feature was the bonus disc of special features. I know some fans whom already had the full seven seasons were debating whether to pay $130 just to get the bonus disc (the fanaticism of fans knows no bounds). I think the collection would have sold better and been a more desirable product with an SMG feature.
