Art can do all of those things you list. The bleeding on the page is the beginning, the nascent spark that will become art. Art's purpose is of the artist. What is gleaned from the viewing is up to the viewer. This relationship gives us much to discuss as seen here over the years.

Even when art is perceived as schlock, then that is telling too. I think the web that forms, for the good and the bad, the schlock, the stunts and the stuff that lift’s life, shows us the beauty and impossible complexity of the human. For that I am forever grateful to Whedon for providing.
